To Republicans: do you not study history?

If so, why do you not recognize the war in Iraq is simply a war of conquest to control a valuable and militarily strategic region? History shows repeatedly that nations primarily go to war over these reasons and that "national defense" or a "perceived threat" are simply terms rally public support. I'm not criticizing the war, as these reasons are important for our country, but why don't we just be open and honest about it?
