Sore throat lasting longer than 2 weeks?

I have had a sore throat for about 2 1/2 weeks now. At first it was accompanied by a "wet" cough with phlegm and mild hot flashes (not really a fever though). I am just wondering if this is a cold that has visited for far too long or the symptom of an underlying condition.... any suggestions or thoughts?
